Chapter 3, Learning Style and Intelligence, September 12-18

Remember to make 2 postings of at least 100 words each this week.  You can comment on these scenarios using what you have read about learning styles and personality type, reply to other student's comments or write about anything related to college and career success.

1.  You have just been assigned a 10 page term paper.
2.  You have to study for a challenging math test.
3.  You have to write up a lab report for a biology class.  It incudes drawing of a frog you have just dissected.
4.  You are taking a required course for your major and it is taught by only one professor.  You dislike this professor.
5.  You are taking a business class and have been assigned a group project to design a small business.  It is worth 50% of your grade.  One of the group members wants to control the group and the others seem to be rebelling.
6.  You have signed up for an economics course and find it difficult to stay awake during the lecture.
7.  You signed up for a philosophy course to meet a humanities requirement.  The vocabulary in the course is unfamiliar.
8.  As part of the final exam, you have to prepare a five minute presenation for your art history class.

  1. I chose to do #2. Studying is not something that I struggle with. It is something that comes easy to me as long as I have the time in my schedule for it. Math on the other hand is very difficult for me. My personality type includes tings such as I like to work in groups, and work with my hands in visual and auditory ways. Math is taught that way, but when I am doing it it is usually in a quiet setting with no group members, just me alone. Studying for a math test would be hard for me unless it was done in class with the teacher in an participating group learning process while learning and studying for the test. Jepordy usually helps and so does auditory and visual aids.

  2. for my second blog I chose to do #8. Final exams do not scare me at all. I tend to like taking tests where I am under pressure. Also my personality type includes working on visual and auditory projects and I do well when I experience things. I also like to control things and I enjoy presentations and talking and communicating with others. I am a feeling type and therefore I enjoy being structured and organized. As a part of that scenario creating a presentation where I talk, show pictures and other visual aids and explain while communicating to a class full of people would be very simple and enjoyable for me.

  3. For my first posting I chose to comment on scenerio #1. If I was ever to be in the postion where I would have to write a ten page term paper I would do the following. First I would need to know when the term paper need to be due by. That would help me to organize my time by looking at it like this: First I would need to know what the topic of the paper would be on.
Then I would figure out what I need to discuss in each paragraph. Then I would think to myself "I need to type up x amount of paragraphs or pages per day". That way I feel that I would not be overly stressed and I can type up only one
page per day or maybe less. I think this is a very basic but extremly efficent way of being "on top" of the assignment. In other words I am in control of the assingment, not the other way around.

  4. For my second posting, I chose to comment on scenerio #8. Similar to what I have said in my previous posting, I would plan out what I would have to discuss in my presentation. Let's say for example, I was required to do a powerpoint presentation. I would make the powerpoint slides. Then what I believe would benefit me very much would be making notecards writing what I need to say on them. This does not mean that I would just stare at the notecards during the presentation, but rather refering to them when I need to. Then I would practice in front of my family and peers. This would give me a good idea of how I am presenting the project. Their input can help me improve on certain public speaking methods.

  5. 4. You are taking a required course for your major and it is taught by only one professor. You dislike this professor.

I have actually been in this situation before when I was in high school and it was difficult for me because I didn't want to change myself and my way of thinking for someone else. Now that I look back I wish I would have because maybe I would have gotten a better grade in the class. What should happen in this scenario first of all you should be open minded and be flexible to change. On the first day of class is when you meet the teacher and get an idea of how things will be during the whole class. A person should be able to change their studying habits and learning skills to fit the class because the teacher isn't going to change especially if they have been teaching that way for a long long time. A person should put their feelings on how they don't like the professor behind them and just focus on the present and now. They should be open minded to learning new things.

  6. 2. You have to study for a challenging math test.

I believe I am a great studier but a horrible test taker because of anxiety. How I study is I look thru my previous assignments to see what we have learned and just study those pages. I also do things in the book like practice work to show if I know the material or not. If I don't I continue to practice, until I feel comfortable with the material. Math is not my best subject personally so I could always work with a class mate or a tutor to help understand things I may not and maybe to help them as well. However I still do like to work alone. Another thing I could do is look thru my lecture notes and see how the teacher was teaching the material.

  7. I am replying to Alissawat’s first posting: I think that perhaps you could ask the teacher to assist with setting up study groups by calling on students that have a similar learning style as you do and or ask if he can have a math tutor lead, a study group session for his/her class. You might be surprise; teacher likes to hear that students are interested in learning and usually are more helpful when asked for help. I did this in a biology class and the teacher did a few small group study sessions. It was very helpful.

  8. Scenario six: This scenario is something similar to one of my real life problems. I go to school twice a week and I am in school from 9:30 in the morning to 9:50 at night. Even though it is only for two days a week it is very hard for me to stay awake in my last class. I find myself constantly yawning and dozing off during the lecture, and this is a class that I really need to be focused for. What I have been starting to do for this problem is relaxing in between my classes, and just giving my brain a break. However, for scenario six I would recommend for the student to try sleeping before class, so they do not fall asleep in class. Also, try asking questions in class to make it less boring. But if the class is a night class and the person just cannot stay awake they can try drinking coffee or an energy drink to stay awake. And if the class is just difficult and they cannot focus because they don’t understand the lectures they can try getting help after class, or going to study groups.

  9. Scenario one: I am not a person who struggles with writing papers, I actually love writing. But it was not always this way; in high school I hated writing and I always put off doing it. What I would recommend for someone who is assigned a ten page paper would be to, analyze the prompt and ask questions if something isn’t clear, brain storm or make an outline, start researching ( if a research paper), make a rough draft, have someone correct it, and lastly make a final draft. It is always good to make sure one understands the prompt of an assignment, and to ask questions to our professors if not. That way you have a clear understanding of what they want your paper to contain. Next, brain storming and making an outline of your paper makes the whole process so much easier; it helps because you plan out what you will be writing about. Furthermore, researching your topic as early as possible is another helpful thing to do. Also, writing a rough draft and having a classmate or teacher correct it is very beneficial. I love working with groups of people, so when I have papers so write well all write a rough draft and exchange them and correct each other’s papers. This helps a lot because you get and idea of how others are writing their papers and you get their opinions and corrections on your own paper. This is good because after this step the final draft should be good!

  10. scenario 2. I had to study for a challenging math test I would have to study in a quiet environment away from people. My personality type is INFP so I am creative but I also like my alone time. I would try to learn the material in a way that I can remember. I would try to find some people that could help me study in a group as well because I think that would really help me. My learning style involves me being hands on with what I am learning. I think flash card would really help me learn the material as well. I think if I practiced the material continuously then I would be able to do well on the math test. I could go to a study hall during school so I could get some extra study time into my day. That way I will be able to remember all the material I covered for the test so I could do well. Also if there were math problems that I could do visually outside of class that would really help. I could do math practice problems on the computer as well.

  11. Scenario 4.If I had to take a course for my major but I disliked the teacher I would have to try and find a way to make it work. I think I would go set up a meeting with the teacher so I could get to know them as a person. I feel if I could just establish some sort of connection then maybe the teacher could understand me as a person. I would do my best to turn in everything on time and learn most of the material outside of class because I just would not get it as well with the teacher. I think if the teacher was already stuck in their ways and teaching style then I would have to try a different method of learning such as going to tutoring. I would have the tutor slow down and try and teach me the same material so I could understand it better. I think that the teacher would be teaching relatively the same material so I would know what they were talking about when I go to the class.

  12. Carrie Ducharme

I select scenario 1. If I had to write a ten page term page I would write down what I need to do to accomplish the term paper like the research needed, due date and any other important details. Next I would start my research on the topic for the term paper. Depending on the timeframe to write the paper, I would spread it out over a few days to make sure I don't run out of time and have to write the entire paperwork the day before its due. I would write down the information needed from my research and begin writing my paper. I would review my paper and ask someone to review it and provide me a feedback. I would make my finishing touches on it and turn it in. I really enjoy writing, so this would not be a big deal at all!

  13. Carrie Ducharme

I select scenario 6. If I signed up for a class and found it difficult to stay awake during a lecture I would try to find away to keep myself from dosing off. I would first try to sit up in my chair and take notes during the lecture to keep me engaged. If we were able to ask questions or participate, I would write down questions to ask about the subject being discussed or comments to further discussed during class. If that was not an option I would ask the professor if he or she would mind if I stand in the back of the class. I have only had this happen to me once and it had nothing to do with it being boring, it was due to a very late night with the girls and lack of sleep.

  14. Scenario #4:
I can relate to scenario 4. This happened to me years ago, while first attending college, I had to take business classes and they were mostly taught by the same professor, whom I did not like because of her attitude towards certain people. To make matters worse I had her for a total of 3 classes in one semester. Since the first day of class, I sensed the class was going to be difficult for many of us. To make the best of the class and to learn what we needed, there were a few study groups that were organized outside of the classroom. In the study group I was in we would compare notes and go over the chapters. The study groups at the end helped everyone pass the class. The point is, being in a class with a teacher you do not like, should not prevent you from learning. Make the best out of it and study hard.

  15. 4. You are taking a required course for your major and it is taught by only one professor. You dislike this professor.

I would have to make the best out of this situation and not fail simply because I don’t like the professor. I would need to take matter into my own hands and try to figure the professor out. By this I mean I would distinguish what the personality types are and go from there. By doing so I would have somewhere to start so that I would excel in the course. I would need to learn all the personality types well so that I can categorize the professor's personality type. By learning what personality types match my professor I can adapt and provide what they want and expect. For example if they are the sensing type of personality they would like my homework to be clear and organized. As I learned from the course I can find out a lot from the professor on the first day of class by noticing how they present information and how the class is set up.

  16. 7. You signed up for a philosophy course to meet a humanities requirement. The vocabulary in the course is unfamiliar.

In order to complete my college degree I know I will have to take a variety of courses in order to fulfill all requirements. Many will be fun and others will be challenging. Since my personality type reflects that of judging I am determined to finish school and get my degree no matter what it takes. Since the vocabulary is unfamiliar I would choose to create flash cards because I am a visual learner. On these flash cards I would not only have the definition of the word but I would also have it used in a sentence. While studying these vocabulary words I would choose to do so in a cool room with good lighting. Every person has their own way of studying and for vocabulary words flash cards would be the best way to do so.

  17. 2.You have to study for a challenging math test.

Studying for me comes very easy. My personality type prefers quiet and cool study areas. Also my personality type includes things like using imagination per say to figure out a math problem, like using the math problem in real life, also things like using my won knowledge instead of someone else's is included also. Math comes very easy to me, with the right study habits, and the correct study area, I will ace any math exam that comes my way. No matter how challenging, I can study my entire night away and most likely; and this is usually the case; get a good grade.

  18. 8. As part of the final exam, you have to prepare a five minute presenation for your art history class.

Final exams are one of my worst fears. I am terrified of finals as my bird is terrified of cats, although I always find ways to cope with my fear. Things that are included in my personality type is I tend to study for long periods of time, and will not stop studying until I know I know the material. Although when I comes to a presentation, its the same basic principle. Recite the presentation, and keep working on it until I know its perfect. This is a very positive aspect in my personality type, because if I found that I only study for short periods of time and don't finish the tasks at hand, I will most likely find it hard to succeed.

  19. I chose to do #2.

This scenario is one of the most challenging for me. Because math is never been my forte I have always procrastinated anything related to this subject. If I didn’t have a choice I would first set up a really quiet, warm and cozy enviroment to help me concentrating. Then I will try to go over the material by myself and identify my weakness. When solving the problems I would use tactical learning skills by writing the problems down and once I found the answer I would try to explain to someone else. Also I will have to work on my logical thinking to be able to memorize formulas and theories.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I chose to do #8.

I chose this scenario because I believe I would not have problems preparing the presentation once I enjoy art and the part that I can use my creativity to illustrate the presentation. On the other side as an introvert when it comes to the oral presentation part that would be really hard for me. Expressing myself in public frightens me and because of that I would have to take a long time to prepare for this exam. Also I would have to work on my structure and organization skills to make sure I am well prepared.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I selected scenario two: I consider my math skill average. I will not hesitate to ask for help from the teacher during his/her office hours and or ask for a tutor as a way to prepare. If possible, have a one on one tutor session. I would dedicate a lot of time to review my notes repeatedly and memorize formulas. I will break it down in steps and not give up. I am glad that I am not afraid to ask for help and that will facilitate my learning in any future goal I chose to follow. It was not always that way but I am glad that is how I think now.

  22. I am responding to scenario number six because I find myself having this problem in my oceanography class. Because I am not interested in the material, and my teacher recites information like a text book, I find myself struggling to pay attention in my oceanography class. To overcome this, I force myself to take detailed notes. By taking notes on what the teacher is saying instead of just the power point, it ensures that I pay close attention to what she is teaching, and because I am taking notes on her talking and I cannot just go back whenever I need to and hear her all over again, I pay close attention so I don’t miss anything. Another strategy I use, is to ask questions when I don’t fully understand something, or to reassure myself that what I understand is correct. By involving myself in a conversation with the teacher, it helps me keep my mind from wondering.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I am responding to scenario number four. In this case, you have to look past your personal dislike of the teacher, in order to still do well in the class. If it is their teaching style that makes you dislike the professor, as I wrote in journal activity number five there are several things you can do to overcome this. The first thing you should do is try to understand the professor's personality, or "psyching out the professor." By figuring out the professor’s personality, you can predict their behavior and know what to expect, which can help you to adjust to their teaching style. Being aware of your own learning patterns can also help you adjust to your teachers. For example, if you are perceptive and your teacher is judging, you then know you should pay careful attention to meeting all of your deadlines. Also, by experimenting with a variety of study techniques you can find which techniques best matches your teachers teaching style.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have chosen scenario four because I can relate. This has actually happened to me, more than once. What can one really do besides acknowledging the professors personality type and finding some way to adapt. On the subject of personality types I’ve had teachers who where the exact opposite of me. I just had to deal with it but more importantly I had to find some common ground if I wanted to be successful in the class. Truth be told some people don’t mesh well and that’s fine, it’s not the end of the world, though at times it can be aggravating.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I have chosen scenario six, so far this has not happened to me. To prevent one from taking a siesta during a lecture I would recommend finding a class during the time of day that one is the most productive whether that’s morning or evening. For me I take a long time to wake up in the morning, I able to concentrate better later in the day. So if it’s possible to change your class to fit your needs better do so. If this is not an option or the problem is not the time of day I would suggest asking questions during the lecture in an effort to break up the monotone. If for some reason one is unable to ask questions I would suggest taking comprehensive notes (by hand which will keep one focused on the lecture). Other options might be caffeine or chewing gum.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I chose #2. I have a hard time studying because of my lack of concentration and time. I am a mother of a 10 and a half month old baby and he pretty much controls my time. I have to make sure that when I have something important to do that I have to make sure to take my time that I have off, like when my baby is napping, for me to really study on my work. If I had a math a Math test coming up around the corner, I would have to take whatever time I have on my hands and use it to it's full potential by really focusing on my studying and having concentration by studying somewhere where I will have no distractions. This could be when my baby is sleeping, TV off, and any other social distractions as well as putting my worries aside and taking full control over my time.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 2. You have to study for a challenging math test.
Instead of math I will substitute biology, because that is a challenging subject for me. I would start to study as soon as possible and do a little studying each day. First I would review all the notes I had taken and make sure I had read the chapters. Even after doing this I definitely would still have trouble understanding the material so I would just try and memorize the vocabulary words. I also would ask someone to quiz me on anything relavent that I had taken notes on. If there were any available practice quizzes I could take I would do those as well.

    ReplyDelete
  28. For my 2nd post I chose #4. If I had to take a course that my major required, but there was only one professor who taught that course, but I did not like the way this professors personality worked with mine, I would have to differ my own personality to fit with theirs. My personality type is very extravert, so if my teacher had a personality of an introvert and focused more on his or her's lectures rather then discussions with the class, I would have to be concentrated and whenever my focus would get interrupted, I would have to make sure to realize that my focus has been altered and get back to paying attention to the lecture. This would also mean that I would have to get much study time in and maybe use my own strengths at home to teach myself. My environment gives me more capability of getting stuff done. If I'm in a relaxed environment with nothing but my school work in front of me, then I would be able to get what I have to get done and do whatever it takes to pass the course with knowledge of what I succeeded in.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I am replying to Jueleeg's post on #2. I have realized after learning the work on a hard course of mine that the only way to really have knowledge of the material would be to study a little each day. Maybe a hour or two each day would be enough to make my memory grasp the lessons being taught. Knowing main concepts can help in knowing the full outline of what your learning. Vocabulary and practice test are a good stepping stone for getting a good grade on a test. I think you are on the right track to getting the grade you desire when you put that much work into it. Right On!

    ReplyDelete
  30. #5 For this scenario, I would probably have mixed feelings at first because part of me would not want to take charge and speak up but the other part of me would be stressed out about my grades. So I would have to speak up and try speaking to the entire group and make suggestions on how to get the project done. I would suggest splitting the project up and voting on the way to get it done. I would suggest setting an early deadline and we all would meet up and go over it so that we can make last minute changes if needed or finish up any work that was not done or anything like that.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I chose to respond to scenario 4. I have had many teachers throughout my life that I didn't like nor did I appreciate their style of teaching. Whenever I get teachers like this, I try to overlook their bad qualities and point out their good qualities. For instance, they may have a temper or an annoying voice, but they help me understand the material and that's all that counts. I have taught myself over the years to overlook people's bad attributes and to appreciate them for their good attributes. This has helped me because eventually I will naturally overlook a teacher's bad qualities and start to actually like them. If the professor has no good qualities whatsoever, then I suck it up and try to learn the material myself with little assistance from the professor.

    ReplyDelete
  32. For my second blog, I chose to respond to scenario 2. I feel that I have always been good at studying, because I have always done fairly well on tests. Also, I am pretty good at math, so this scenario wouldn't be very challenging. I would study by working out practice problems and revising my work to make sure it is correct. I would repeat this as much as necessary for me to feel that I have a firm grasp on the material. If any of my answers are wrong, I look back on my work and try to find where I made a mistake. I would also allow myself plenty of time to study, because I don't study effectively if I am hastily cramming information into my head shortly before the exam.

  33. 4. You are taking a required course for your major and it is taught by only one professor. You dislike this professor.
Based on what I learned in Chapter 3, with my personality type.. in this situation I would most likely just keep quiet. I believe the situation would only worsen if I were to be agressive right back with the professor that dislikes me. By keeping to myself, maintain organization with my material, turning in assignments when due, and doing what I am told to do will only aide me to win the professors approval. And if not, so be it. Sometimes you just have to suck it up, smile, and let it be.

  34. 8. As part of the final exam, you have to prepare a five minute presenation for your art history class.
I am horrible with presentations. In this scenario, I would try my best to keep my composure. Inevitably I would get nervous, have sweaty palms, and most likely turn bright red in the face while I give the presentation, but all in all .. I have always had successful presentations. I think once I am speaking out my presentation, the nerves fade a bit. According to my personality type I am an introvert, so technically I am definitely out of my element and foreign to the idea of public speaking but to do what I got to do, which in this case it is manditory for an art history class, I would indubidably do the speech without thinking twice about it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Scenario#1: If I ever have to do a ten page paper I would be in shock, but remain calm do the following I would need to see the requirements on the paper the topic and start writing an outline. An outline will determine the structure of my paper and start going from there. I have to make sure I get a early start and not start the day before. I would be stressing due to the fact its ten pages but if I start brainstorming and outlining the paper and then start writing I will be good. Work on it each day I should be good and review it over and over I shall in the road to success.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Scenario#8: Preparing a 5minute presentation will be difficult for me because I have stage fright but it’s for my final exam for art history I have to do it. I know I can do it it’s just I get nervous in front of a class room presenting alone can be nerve wrecking but I have to overcome my fear and get an outstanding grade for my final. I will first mentally prepare myself, make a PowerPoint side to be easier to guide the student through my presentation and be good distractions for student to put their attention towards the side not all eyes on me. Have pictures to make it entertaining and fun for everyone for just five minutes. The good way to succeed is to do assignments in enough amount of time that way I’m not stressing out.

If I were in a situation like this would use my form which is the learner's hearing. Could I start by recording a (CD) with the new vocabulary words for this way be able to listen in the car and different locations. Since hearing the same thing over and over again I will stay in my head. If could also read it aloud over and over again. Now with the kinesthetic side could make a flash card with the new vocabulary words in order to make games and the same time learn the words

    1. If I were assigned a ten page term paper, it would just suck. More importantly, having time management skills would be extremely essential to do the best possible. Planning out this assignment and shortening it into bits and marking a deadline for each part would, in my opinion, be the choicest option. This way, even if the long term seemed like a lot; in the short term the paper would not seem anywhere as difficult. A person with the introvert and judging attributes with respect to their personality type; would find this assignment not as much of a hassle.

  39. You are Taking a course required for your major and it is only one Taught by professor. You dislike this professor.

If I had to take a class with a teacher who do not like. The first thing I would do is to make a research of books, materials, required readings for the class. Also look if there is a tutoring center designed to this subject. Bearing all this in my favor and do before school starts would be much easier to take this matter and understand it and would not have to pay close attention to the teacher to not frustrate and not have to unsubscribe from the class.

    2. Challenging math tests are always fun, especially since seemingly minute markings such as signs affect the outcome of a problem immensely. Memorization skills, and having an appropriate learning style, would be beneficial in the resolution of such a worrisome task. Visual learners would excel in this, considering using symbols and in definitions; the use of pictures. Also, auditory techniques would further improve the chance of success on a challenging math test. For example, participating in a study group before the test would prove to be very helpful. The use of flash cards, which is associated with both visual and auditory learners, is very helpful. Being able to repeat or say items on the cards, as well as looking at a formula for example; would prove to be a significant advantage.

  41. I chose scenario #2, studying for tests can be difficult for me but it also depends on the subject. Math is not one of the subjects that I struggle with, it is easy for me to understand math and work with numbers. For that reason, if I study for a challenging math test I just review my notes and work with my examples and homework problems, if I needed help with the homework then I will get the help needed before the exam. Then I review once more the day before the exam and just go over the material.

    ReplyDelete
  42. For the second blog, I chose scenario #4. I once took a class that was required for my major where I disliked the professor, and that professor was the only one who taught that subject. I went on with taking that class and I was able to work with the professor and to try my best in that class. I did sometimes have difficulties with that professor and I did think of dropping that class and taking it at a different school; however, I stayed in that class and I actually managed to finish it with a good grade that I was very satisfied with, and very satisfied with my hard work to get the professor to be satisfied as well. Even if a student dislikes the professor, they need to work through it because nothing in life goes on easily, and we won’t always have the things that we like in our lives.

    4. You are taking a required course for your major and it is taught by only one professor. You dislike this professor.

One of the major ways to get into a class you like is it find another Professor that your personality type meets up with, but obviously in this situation this is not an option. You'll have to take this class as there are no other options.

First off, you'll need to analyze the Professor's personality type on the first day of class. Listen to them, examine their demeanor, read their syllabus, etc. Most Professors are introverted, intuitive, and judging. If they're matched up with your personality type you should be okay with learning in the class, and you may just dislike how they act. If not you'll need to adapt, change your learning style a little to do well in the class. Try to talk to the teacher and see if there anyways to accommodate your differences. It'll be a change of pace and could broaden your perspective.

    7. You signed up for a philosophy course to meet a humanities requirement. The vocabulary in the course is unfamiliar.

I'm taking philosophy at the moment, so I guess I can really relate to this one. Obviously, you're going to need to study the terms a lot, and if you're an intuitive type this may difficult for you since it isn't too interesting. You can try to apply it to something that'll interest you if this is the case. For example, try to make yourself learn the terms by using them regularly in arguments you write up on the internet. Expanding your vocabulary and studying for a class.

Otherwise, first off you'll need to examine what kind of a learner you are. i.e. auditory, visual, tactile, etc. Then make up a way to learn these terms through your method. If you're visual make note cards, if you're auditory make a tape you can listen to that defines the term, and if you're tactile make a game you can play that'll help you study the terms. Whatever you do though will require a lot of study time, so be prepared.

As in every sports team, class group, or any other type of groups/teams there needs to be a leader. I believe it is a necessity to have one. The leader takes it upon him/her self to lead the others to a victory or in this case to complete the assignment; making sure everyone can meet at a certain time, assign everyone to do a certain part, be in contact with everyone to see if they need help, and so on. If the person is getting to be pushy or seems to be getting too stressed over being the leader, causing the others to rebel against him, than I think the best that can be done is communicate. Maybe the leader is the one that needs help organizing. Talking about the situation and finding a solution is the best that the group can do and complete the assignment. If even one of the group members is unhappy, it affects everyone else, because that person will not do what he or she is supposed to do correctly.
