For my first blog post I would like to make a comment on how this semester is going for me and the different challeges that I have or will need to face along the way. So far, I feel this semeseter is going very well for me compared to my first semester of college. I am enjoying all my classes, therefore doing the required assingments and reading material is not at all dreadful to me although it is very time consuming. Although I feel much better about this semester than I did the last, I feel a lot of the required work I need to finish is very time consuming. This involoves reading materials and doing completeing assingments in what seems very short amounts of time. To deal with this I take the most important priorities first, for example what project is due the soonest and tend to focus a certain amount of time on that therefore, it is not overwhemling for me, in other words I like to break readings and assingments into smaller pieces of material. This method has been extremly helpful in this semester so far and I feel that it will contiune to be an effective process for me to get the best out of thios semester.
ReplyDeleteFor my second blog post, I would like to comment on what is my generation and how it will affect my future career opprutunities. I am in the generation of the "New Millennial'. The main type of work that will be in high demand in technological types of work. This means that I will have to know how to use technology effiecntly. Thankfully, be being a "New Millennial" I already possess basic technological skills, such as knowing how to operate computers and so on. Since the changes in technology are so quick, I will need possess skills in reading, communications, and have mathmatic skills as well. Also the fact that new advances are being made in biology, this will create new jobs such as biotecnology.
ReplyDeleteThis semester so far has been going very well for me. This is my first year at college. I am only 18 years old. I am taking 17 credits and 8 of those are two separate english courses in an accelerated program where each class is 8 weeks instead of 16. Resulting in double the work each week. I have finished the first course with an A- and the second course I am in now I have an A also. I also have a B in my sociology class and I have an A+ in this online class. So this semester has been great so far for me. I have faced difficulties in many different ways this semester. But so far I have been able to over come all of them.
ReplyDeleteI would give my friend a lot of advice before going to an important job interview. Such as getting a great night sleep the night before. Also to eat a nutritional breakfast so they are not hungry during the interview. That can be distracting. Also to dress professionally and not use small words like "umm" or "uh" and instead of saying "yeah" or "nope" to say yes or no. Also if they have any scheduling conflicts with the new job to be right up front and honest about it to the interviewer, as to let them know ahead of time and not wait until the are hired to lay that important information on them. I would also advise them to know the mission statement of the company and to know and to research the job duties that he or she may be hired to do so they know in advance. I would tell them to be direct, straight to the point, honest and nice in a sincere way. No using sarcasm or slang. do not look up when thinking on an answer to say or look down when telling them something. Do not lie about anything and do not fidgit. You can be curious and ask questions and look around the room but not when being spoken too. Listen to what the interviewer is asking or telling you and be polite. No one likes to be disrespected. Most importantly be yourself. (if your not any of the previous things i mentioned) then you need to learn differently, because getting hired and being above the rest of the applicators isnt always about how able you are to do the job, but smetime its the small things that make you a person that he or she wants to be around.
ReplyDeleteThis semester is going ok for me. I do not feel as overwhelmed as I did last semester. I feel as though my classes are a lot more interesting and engaging now. The challenges that I am facing are studying adequately for each of my classes and keeping track of when my assignments are due and when. Sometimes I end up missing an assignment and completing it before the next class. I am also facing the roadblock of having to deal with finances and having a family that is constantly pressuring me to help them. I deal with my problems by doing the best I can to help myself and my family. I deal with studying for my classes by putting time aside to study for each class and make sure I complete all my assignments.
ReplyDeleteI am generation Y. I am confident, ambitious and goal oriented. My generation will affect my future career choices because I am always going to be striving to move forward in any career I choose. I will go for the stable career that will be needed for a long time such as health care. I am from a generation where we do not give up on our dreams and we are always reaching for the stars. My future career choices will involve careers that are continuing to prosper and move forward and I think a lot of technological advancement will be involved in any career I choose.
ReplyDeleteMake a comment about how this semester is going for you. Are you facing any challenges or roadblocks? How can you deal with them?
ReplyDeleteThis semester is going alright for me so far, it is just a lot harder this semester for me. I have four classes, anatomy, communications, English 122, and this class. The work load for me this semester is rather large. I am not used to having homework that can take me all day to complete. My anatomy class is very hard. I have to study every single day because there is so much information to know. My other courses are not as hard for me as anatomy. English 122 is a little hard because there is a lot of reading for the course and I do not always have the time to complete the readings. Anatomy is my life right now, it consumes most of my time, and I do not get to focus on my other classes as much as I need to. The number one challenge I am facing this semester is balancing my time wisely. I spend most of my time on my anatomy work and I need to have some time for my other classes too. I have started trying to do my homework for my other courses before I go to my anatomy class because my anatomy class is a night course. Therefore, I have the daytime to do some of my other classes homework. This solution has been working for me so far; I am currently doing well in all of my classes. Another challenge for me is the fact that friends and my boyfriend want some of my time too, and I just do not have any extra time. I feel really bad when I cannot go places with friends or spend time with my boyfriend, but they are understanding for the most part. I will deal with this problem by trying to fit in one day a week to see them because I do need a break from school work every so often.

Make a comment about how this semester is going for you. Are you facing any challenges or roadblocks? How can you deal with them?
ReplyDeleteI have to say that this semester or half year has been of many strong emotions or situations in both good and bad senses. I can start in my personal side managed to buy a house 4 months ago for which I am very happy and content. On the other hand managed to obtain a fixed and permanent work with all types of benefits, but which is not to my liking because it does not fill me professionally and every day I dislike more. For this reason I am taking this course to see if I can understand what my strengths and weaknesses in order to take reins in my future. Third, the doctors diagnosed me cancer again, therefore the health issue I am a little concerned about which affects me one way or another in my professional side, as a student, mother, like everything in my life. Finally, about three weeks ago I pass the test for a federal agency, now I only need to wait for the interview and a physical examination which I hope to pass it successfully. Which I am very glad that this career does match with my personality and my strengths as studied in this course.

ReplyDeleteOverall I would say this semester is going well. College is not as hard as I was expecting, though I must say it is more challenging. In college I think one has to push themselves more. I have encountered some technical difficulties, minor disagreements but other than that all is well this semester. Don’t get me wrong I have had my moments. Luckily though most of the classes I’m taking I have interest in them. I do not feel obligated or in any way forced, I am actually looking forward to upcoming assignments and discussions. Thus I am able to remember due dates and am willing to do any extra credit that is offered. Some of the work can get a little tedious, especially in a history class I am taking. Child development classes are simple and to the point which is welcomed. The workload can get a little excessive but it comes down to management. Time management is something I still need to work on especially spacing out my assignments in an effort not to get overwhelmed.
My blog discussion would be about how this semester is going for me, if I am facing any challenges or roadblocks along the way, and how am I planning on dealing with these challenges. This semester is by far going good, having physics, engineering statics, differential equations, and counseling are keeping my schedule very busy. Always having lots of homework but that’s no problem because I try my best to finish them on time or earlier if I could. The only challenge that I am facing this semester is in my engineering statics class. This class is giving me a hard time understand the subject and having difficulties with the materials presented in the class. I am dealing with this challenge by having a group study, taking too long on the homework assignments, but after all I am getting the help that I need by asking the teacher since there is no tutor help for engineering as there is for math and English. Moving a step towards my goal is what keeps me moving forward and look towards my future goals. Overall, to become an engineer I have to face challenges whether they are in my school studies or in my future career.
ReplyDeleteso far, this semester is getting harder and harder. my first year of college was last year and i was struggling a lot with classes because i was not taught to do a lot of homewok in high school and was not prepared. this is currently my second year in college and so far everything is going great, however, i am struggling with some of my classes because i need to manage my time a little better and need to focus on certain classes more then others. teahcers do not really care about you in college like they dd in high school so you need to figure everything out on yor own. the roadblocks i am facing right now are in my math class and art. my math class is very hard and we go through things veryquikly nad have 2 chapter tests at a time i falied one test and passed the other one. my art class is very challenging because i never took a art class where you ned to learn about history and not draw anything.the way i can deal with those classes is set up a time calender and manage my time by doing that. i will make sure i write down whenever i need to study for a test so i do not forget and for my art class i will make sure i read 30 minutes everyday so i can at least learn something new everyday.

ReplyDeleteThis semester is going good for me. I am a returning student so it’s my first year back in College after 8 years. At the beginning I felt intimidated since I am an ESL student and the language was challenging. I love all the classes I am taking and I don’t feel overwhelmed at all. I am glad I picked this class because is really helping me clear the way to make sure I am on the right path for my second degree and make sure I don’t waist more time. The challenges that I am facing is the language. Most of the time I am very engaged on the assignments and activities but when it comes to writing an essay or taking tests, I feel insecure and everything becomes very challenging. I deal with that having extra dedication and taking the time to read and write the essays carefully. Since the semester started I feel that my vocabulary is a lot better but I still have a lot more to learn until I can think and write in English at the same pace.

ReplyDeleteI am within the generation identified as Y. Within this generation I have learned technological advancement and this will greatly help me within my future career. Medical records and patient care will be computerized. I am able to understand the changing demands of the technological advances and I will be able to adapt efficiently. As people begin to live longer there will be more need for health-oriented careers. As a recreational therapist the home care demand will increase and there are many opportunities that will advance for example aquatic therapy and different avenues of therapy for the geriatric population.
After years of first attending a community college and graduating, I was nervous about returning. It is so different now than when I first attended back in the mid 90's. Back then there was more to researching than typing and searching in a computer; before we had to look through books, write to companies for information; in general it was more work to do research. Having on-line classes again is something we did not have, and it is of great help. Especially for those who work and attend school. I am currently taking three classes (On-line Counseling, English, and Accounting Class) and I am doing pretty well on all three. Right till the first day, I was nervous and felt I was not going to do well and that I would end up dropping out. At this point the only thing I regret is taking so long to return. The biggest challenge I am facing is not being able to get tutoring help for my accounting class, which is the hardest class I have. This is because I have to work on the days tutoring is available. To help me with this I study and go over my notes as much as possible. I also do online assignments to help me with each chapter. The on-line class has given me many ways to help me study more effectively. I am not nervous anymore and I look forward to taking more classes next semester.
ReplyDeleteThis semester is flying by. I can’t believe we are already half way through it. I have had a very good experience but it has not been that easy. Last time I was enrolled in college I did not have a little one running around. My husband and family have been very supportive and have made this experience as easy as it can be. It has just been up to me to stay determined and focused. I find that at times there just aren’t enough hours in a day but I try to manage my time as well as possible. This course has really taught me a lot on how to excel in college and how to overcome the various obstacles that get in the way.
ReplyDeleteI am enrolled as a full time student and find myself overwhelmed at times but the tips I learned from this course on time management and new study skills have really worked out for me. I was recommended this course by an academic counselor since I was a returning student with a whole different lifestyle now. I see why the counselor recommended this course and I really like it. The biggest obstacle for me is time but writing out a schedule really helps. Managing my time wisely and efficiently really gives me the most time to do what I need. I’m glad I got back into school and sometimes we just need to jump in and face the hardships that come along with it.

ReplyDeleteWhat is your generation? Baby Boomer? Generation X? New Millennial? How will your generation affect your future career choices?
Okay, so I'm part of the Millennial Generation. The first and foremost part of being in this generation is the pure amount of people going to college. This is a time where more people then ever in history have gone to college. Plus, with the economy entering a recession and the state and government cutting school funding getting into college is harder than it has ever been. Next, technology is a big key about our generation. Almost all jobs will require his to have advanced skills with technology, though our generation was born with it, so for the most part we are more savvy. Our generation has the least crime and drug usage. Finally, we are good at working in teams and respectful of our values, so more than anything we're going to be helping the nation the most we can. Along with all the change that is required with the world changing as quickly as it is.

ReplyDeleteWhat tips would you give to a friend before he or she interviewed for a job that was really important?
The biggest tip my friend will need to know is to sell yourself the best you can. The employer is going to hear things that will put you into good light. Give them all your positives without sounding too conceited, and when addressing your downfalls make them seem empowering to you. Next, come prepared know a lot about their company. Ask questions that make them think you care about their workplace. Tell them all the services you have to offer them. Make the entire interview about what you can do for them. Also, tell them what makes you good for this job. Talk about all the hardships you've gone through, and anything related to the field of work. Make sure you have a complete resume being sent in beforehand tha twill really go over yourself well, yet only lasting a page. Finally, make sure to look your best wear something appropriate for the job you're looking to take.
I was born in the late 60’s; therefore, I am generation X. I agree that at the time I graduated with my MA degree the economy was not good and it is only until recently that the baby boomers started to retire in my field of work and that created some opportunities for my generation. I was fortunate to get a job but so many of my friends had to wait for an extended time for an opportunity in their field. I think those in my generation normally have a good solid work ethic, valued diversity and family and strive for a balance life style. My generation is highly educated and it is competitive; therefore, we need to keep up and attempt to stay a step ahead of changes in our field.
ReplyDeleteI have a few tips for my friends as they plan for a job interview. First, research the position and the company you plan apply. Second, talk to anyone that might have a similar job and or can provide additional input about the position. Third, invest in a good outfit and personal care. This will include shoes, outfit, hair, nails and skin care facial. Fourth, videotape yourself roleplaying for an interview and review it with a friend or career/job counselor or professional friend to give you feedback. Lastly, get a good night sleep the night before the interview and have a healthy breakfast prior to the interview

ReplyDeleteThis semester is going fairly well and really fast. The weeks are flying by and it seems as through I don't have enough time in the day to complete everything on my daily list. My courses this semster are less stressful than prior semesters. I work full-time, own a business, have two girls that are in competive cheer, going to college and I am in charge of all the household duties while my husband is deployed for the next 12 months. I guess my biggest challenge is trying to figure out how to balance my time between work, school and my home life equally. Right now my children need me more than ever as they are having a really hard time dealing with my husband being gone so long. We have gone through deployments in the past but this is our first 12 month deployment. Right now it seems as through I am faced with roadblocks continuiously whether is it needing a power of attorney to handle something on my husband's behalf or having to decided whether I am going to take online courses or physically attend classes at school in the spring. When roadblocks happen I tell myself to breathe, relax and evaluate the situation and determine what my options are before committing.

ReplyDeleteThe generation I am associated and classified into is the New Millennial generation which is the offspring of the baby boomers. As studied in the current chapter, chapter 9 career and education, generation new millennial is also sometimes referred to as generation y or the echo boomers. Interestingly enough, the New Millennial generation is made up of about three times that of generation x. This population quantity is expected to surpass that of the Baby boomers which was categorized in the timeline of 1946 to that of 1964, a ten year span. As stated in CollegeScope, chapter 9 career and education, “By 2010, they will become the largest teen population [in] U.S history.” Growing up, I noticed how many of the classes I was in was made up of a full class, rarely were there any open seats. Also, I gained some insight into the repercussive effects this had on a college age-level, I spoke to a counselor who informed me how it used to be easier to get into a university because the GPA requirement was lower. As I found out, the transfer GPA requirement was bumped about .5 which is rather significant in my opinion. More so, as the age goes more into the technological, many jobs are being replaced by robotics or machinery as technology advances.

ReplyDeleteFor my first post I decided to answer the second post,I belong to the Millennial generation, which could have a number of positive affects on my future. Firstly, the idea that millennials are generally happy, confident, and positive people as well being cooperative team players and respectful/accepting of authority, is important to the millennials further because all of the traits listed above are important work and social skills that will help them get jobs, promotions, and other beneficial career rewards. Also the belief that my generation will be credited with replacing ineffective agencies with better working ones is important because it is going to open a whole new line of work and a career opportunity.
ReplyDeleteMy second post is going to be in response to the third question. The most straight forward and uncomplicated review for this chapter would be that future careers are going to have a strong technological base, and it is important to learn how to adjust to the changes technology are bring about. This is going to affect not only mine by everyone in generation millennia because it is important to keep up to date and recent on the latest and greatest technology. The point is that the workplace is only going to start emphasizing the need of technological advanced people, and if you do not have a full understanding of this information, people who appear to have more experience with technology will be most likely to get the job, or promotion or etc.
ReplyDeleteThis semester has been a pretty challenging first year for me already. I told myself to jump back into school and give it your all so that you can have a bright future for you and your family. I realized that it's much harder then I expected, especially to take online classes since i'm not able to drive yet, because I don't have an instructor explaining the material to me. This is a roadblock that I have had to grow from. Telling myself that there is a way for me to focus and really learn the information on my own, it can be so hard to focus though when you have a child that you feel like you have to attend to their every need. He is only a year old and I am wanting to spend as much time with him as possible so to set that aside and focus on my school work can be very hard. My internet has been failing a lot recently so it has been difficult to keep up with my work when I don't have much help because my baby daddy is at work all the time and I don't drive or have a car yet. So the days that I don't have internet I have to make up for on other days. It can be a huge struggle when the work loud is packed on and I'm not able to go off of my scheduled plan. I know this will get easier once I am in a place where I have all these things taken care of and I don't have to rely on other people to pay for them or to get them to work for me. Also, when i'm able to drive to my classes that will help so that I can start taking classes at a school instead of trying to do it at home. A lack of High School experience has made College a much bigger struggle. In high school before I had my child I sort of just slacked off and did whatever I wanted to do, so now that I have to focus and I know what I want out of life, I have to pay for the times that I didn't focus on my studies in high school. It makes it a lot harder. Overall I try to stay on top because I know my motivation is to reach for something more and to give me and my family the life we deserve one day. I want to make sure that I can do something I love to do for my career! It's going to take a lot of dedication to do so.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first semester as a college student, and I guess I would say that it's going okay. It's not going great and it's not going bad, just okay. The funny thing is, I know exactly what it is that's keeping my college experience form being great, it's my time management skills. For as long as I've been in school, I have procrastinated my assignments and hastily done them last minute and usually done very good on them. I got good grades all throughout school while procrastinating almost everything I did. College definitely doesn't work this way. The workload is much bigger and the assignments are much more demanding. My biggest issue in college so far is that my natural procrastinating ways are prohibiting me from getting assignments done on time and getting them done with good quality. This blog is a perfect example of this. I can help my procrastination by getting a personal calendar and marking all assignments and their due dates. Perhaps I could do this on my phone and save it as my home screen, so I look at it about twice every minute! I can also reward myself by finishing assignments on time by doing something fun. I know that the biggest reward of all though will be my success in college and better opportunity in the work force. I've learned a lot this semester, I just need to be better at my time management.
